Marilyn Manson experiments with a new persona called Omega in this video, a pale, red-haired alien who quickly discovers the dark side of fame upon falling to Earth and being treated like a guinea pig first and a puppet celebrity afterwards.
Be prepared to watch this video with an open mind, especially if you’re getting the uncensored version.
The video dicontains graphic imagery, where drug use is at least implied, partial artificial nudity (can’t say much more without ruining the video, but let’s just say Marilyn Manson comes wrapped in a rather bizarre body suit) and also has some queer references thrown in for good measure.
What is remarkable about this video is the fact that it is stylish and manages to capture the glam era effectively. Marilyn Manson’s make up is impeccable and interesting and has been voted as his best make up job to date in many fan forums.
It should be noted that the concept of glamorous, androgynous aliens is not a novel one, since David Bowie had dazzled and confused the audiences with the mighty Ziggy Stardust long before Marilyn Manson was born.
While not entirely original, this Omega character and other concepts revealed in the Dope Show video manage to suck you in a universe of Manson’s creation and help you realize the theory behind the Mechanical Animals album. Definitely a must-see if you want to get a feel of Marilyn Manson’s work.
